Meeting are held each Tuesday 9am - 1pm Salvation Army Hall, Bonnells Bay, NSW
Morisset Spinners & Weavers first began back in 1984 with only a hand-full of members.
The group is now about 50 people strong. We are from all walks of life and meet weekly to share our interest in textile-related activities.
We learn from each other, hold regular workshops to increase our knowledge, and generally have a good time.
Most of us spin and or weave, but we also do felting, knitting, crochet, basketry, tapestry and dyeing.
We run regular workshops of interest and our members are always willing to teach each other our varied crafts.
It doesn't matter if you are young or old, male or female, or are caring for your preschoolers, you will be made welcome.
A focus on spinning is held on
2nd Tuesday of the month
A focus on weaving is held each
4th Tuesday of the month
A stash buster day is held on any fifth (5th) Tuesday in a month.
An advertisement for people interested in a 'Spinning Group' was placed in a local paper in Morisset back in February 1984. As a result, the first "Spinning" meeting was held in April of that year with 18 people in attendance.
Initially meetings were held once a fortnight in the Anglican Church Hall in Bridge Street, Morisset, (but not in school holidays as many members had small children at school).
The group then moved to Morisset Memorial Hall in 1985 when the Anglican Church stopped letting their hall to outside groups.
The group became incorporated on 23rd August 1993 and at that time membership had grown to 27.
Membership grew as the Morisset area developed, so the decision was made to meet on a weekly basis.
The group also expanded its interests with weaving, felting, basketry, knitting, crochet and dyeing added to the group's list a regular activities.
Now with membership of over 50, we have grown a lot from our humble beginnings.
We are an accepting, diverse group of people who love all things fibre.
We welcome all ages (including Mums with pre-schoolers) and all levels of experience.
Come and join us for morning tea and a friendly chat.
